Recipe - Veg Momo (Tibbetian Delicacy)



Veg Momos


Momo is a dish native to Tibet region, basically it is a type of steamed dumpling which has a filling and it has become a traditional delicacy in Nepal, Tibet and India. Momos are served with sesame and peanut sauce (chutney) and tomato sauce as well. 


I like momos because they can be prepared at home easily, require very less oil, are pretty healthy and delicious that everybody just loves them. In veg momos you can make filling with vegetables of your choice including Pareen, tofu, mushrooms etc. I have added a lot of colorful vegetables in preparation. Here I am describing the step by step recipe, so give it a try and you will know how easy they are to make at home.




Ingredients


For Covering


  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • Salt as per taste

For Filling


  •  2 cups Shredded cabbage
  •  1 cup Shredded carrot  
  •  1 Onion chopped
  • 2 Cloves of Garlic chopped
  • ½ Inch Ginger chopped
  • 1 small Green capsicum chopped
  • 1 tsp. Soy sauce  
  • 1 tsp. Black pepper powder
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1 tbsp. Olive oil

Method


The Dough


  • To make dough take all-purpose flour add salt and 1 tbsp. oil mix it very well then knead with the help of water to a dough and again knead for a few minutes and let it rest

Filling


  • Meanwhile start to make the filling heat oil in a pan add garlic, ginger then onion, Sauté till they get soft then add capsicum let cook and then add carrot and cabbage
  • When cooked add salt, soy sauce, black pepper powder. Mix everything well
  • Turn off the heat

Shaping Momos


  • Make small equal balls of the dough, take one put it on a surface and start to roll out using a rolling pin to a 4-5 inch circle
  • Put 1 tbsp. filling in the center of the circle and then start to bring the edges together to cover the filling and begin to pinch the edge to the top and seal it
  •  Make all rest like this then put them in a lightly greased plate
     
  • And steam them in a steamer for about 10-15 minutes
  • You can also use deep bottom pan as well with some bowl inside to steam them if you do not have a steamer.
 Serve them hot with sauce
