Recipe- How to make Indian Cheese (Paneer) at Home

How to make Indian Cheese (Paneer) at Home

Paneer is an integral ingredient in Vegetarian Cuisine. In India this is used in lots of recipes including appetizers, main course and desserts. Every time you get it from shops but it is very easy to prepare paneer at your home. I am giving the easy recipe to make it, to prepare paneer, you can take full cream (if available or you can add heavy cream externally) and food acid (usually lemon juice, vinegar) is added to hot milk to separate the curds from the whey.

  • 1 Liter Milk
  • Heavy Cream (This is completely optional)
  • 2-4 Tablespoon Lemon juice or Vinegar
  • Cotton or Muslin Cloth

  • Bring milk to boil in a pan
  • Keep stirring the milk to keep it from burning or sticking to bottom
  • When it starts to boil add lemon juice to it the milk will start to curdle
  • Boil for few minutes and turn off the heat
  • The lumps or white soft solids start to separate and the remaining liquid will become watery whey
  • Now pour it in a soft cotton or muslin cloth with the help of strainer now you have your soft cheese and whey separated
  • You can keep the whey to use in another recipe it is very protein rich (buttermilk)
  • Let the water drain from your cloth and the close it tightly with your hand and wash it thoroughly under running water to remove the sour taste of lemon from the cheese
  • Now remove it from water and squeeze to drain the water
  • Now put some heavy weight on it and keep aside for few hours

Now your paneer is ready to use or simply store in an airtight container in refrigerator for using later.
